Good learning for adolescent brains

We are really excited to be looking at the International Middle Years Curriculum for our Year 7 and 8 students.
This curriculum is based on research about how the adolescent brain learns best: by being active and engaged with their learning, learning from and with their peers.
Each subject will be taught separately, but there will be a theme running through all subjects in Years 7 and 8 that unite the subjects together. These are called the 'Big Ideas'. Examples of these are 'Resilience': success over time requires persistence; 'Balance': things are more stable when different elements are in the correct or best possible proportions and 'Challenge': facing up to, or overcoming, problems and barriers increases possibilities in our lives.
Students will be encouraged to keep a reflective journal throughout each six week topic, culminating in a media project at the end to tie together their learning in the different subjects.
All subjects areas have been develope to lead towards GCSE content, with an additional focus on International Learning, considering our place within the wider world.
We believe that this is a very exciting curriculum which introduces and develops key learning skills within students and we cannot wait to introduce it to our students.
