Why we are specialising in being dyslexia friendly

Whilst putting together our proposal for the Department for Education, we have come across the following quotes which have helped us to articulate what we are about:

“Dyslexia-friendly‟ teaching techniques will be helpful to children without specific difficulties, while children who have dyslexia may not be able to learn effectively without particular consideration of their needs. What is essential for the learner with these specific difficulties will be helpful for all those developing their literacy”. Leicester City Council – Education and Lifelong learning: MIN SpLD

Best practice is to teach all students as if they are dyslexic. Source: Nottingham City Guide to Dyslexia Friendly Schools

This became our starting point for the school ensuring that we provide an approach that benefits all but especially those who may not be able to access the traditional curriculum.
